The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has announced plans to host the Lagos State Food Safety Conference and Exhibition 2026, a landmark initiative designed to mobilise residents, food handlers, manufacturers, and stakeholders across the food value chain toward a collective commitment to food safety, disease prevention, and public health protection.

According to the General Manager / CEO, LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., the event is scheduled for September 8, 2026, at NECA House, Alausa-Ikeja, Lagos, and will convene policymakers, public health experts, food scientists, industry regulators, market associations, and consumers in a unified effort to address emerging food safety challenges, strengthen compliance with international best practices, and foster a culture of prevention over reaction.

Themed: “From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere,” the event will feature keynote addresses, technical sessions, live cooking demonstrations, food testing exhibitions, and interactive workshops focused on hazard analysis, safe food handling, packaging integrity, and the prevention of foodborne illnesses. Participants will also gain access to the latest innovations in food safety technology and monitoring systems.

Speaking ahead of the event, the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA emphasised the critical role of collective vigilance in safeguarding public health: “Food safety is not the responsibility of the government alone. It is a shared obligation that begins at the farm, continues through processing and distribution, and ends at the consumer’s table.

“The Lagos State Food Safety Conference and Exhibition 2026 is a call to action for every Lagosian. We must move from passive consumption to active prevention. When we prioritise food safety, we protect lives, strengthen our economy, and secure the future of our families.”

Solebo urged every resident, food vendor, manufacturer, and stakeholder to join the movement to make Lagos a model for food safety in Nigeria and across Africa.

He said the distinguished guest speakers include Dr. Adeniyi Adedayo Odugbemi, Global Director of Quality and Food Safety, and Dr. Nurah Oseni of the Food Technology Department, Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.

The conference aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader public health agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG III (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Solebo reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to intensifying consumer protection enforcement, public education, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure that only safe, wholesome, and properly labelled food products reach Lagos consumers.

The General Manager / Chief Executive Officer therefore invites all homemakers, restaurant operators, school food vendors, supermarket owners, and agricultural producers to participate actively in the conference and exhibition or forward their suggestions to the Email: Lascopapau@gmail.com.

He said that, in addition to registration details, partnership opportunities, and the full programme schedule, the general public should contact the Director, Scientific Research and Investigation Development Department, LASCOPA, Mr. Raheem Suluka, on 08028284939, for inquiries and more details.
