Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a kidney disease clinic and a health technology academy, while also launching the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-West in Jigawa State.
The projects, unveiled in Hadejia under the Renewed Hope Agenda, are aimed at improving healthcare delivery, tackling food insecurity, and supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
The newly inaugurated Oluremi Tinubu Clinic and Dialysis Centre, built by FutureMap Foundation in partnership with eHealth Africa, will provide early detection, treatment, and prevention of chronic kidney disease. The First Lady described the facility as a life-saving intervention that will expand access to quality healthcare, particularly for underserved communities.
She also commissioned the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy, established by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), to equip young Nigerians and healthcare professionals with digital skills, data analytics, and innovation tools to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve early detection of kidney disease.
NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, said the academy represents a significant step in integrating technology into Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Senator Tinubu also launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-West, targeting children under six, pregnant women, and nursing mothers to improve nutrition and reduce food insecurity.
Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, said the initiative reflects the commitment of North-West governors to combating malnutrition. He disclosed that over 382,000 children were screened for malnutrition in 2025, up from about 245,000 in 2024, while successful treatment cases for moderate acute malnutrition rose from 19,000 to over 43,000.
The governor pledged continued support through storage facilities, distribution centres, and partnerships with health institutions to ensure the programme reaches vulnerable households.
